.500 A-Square

Colonel Author B. Alphin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Weapons Systems Engineering. The newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant attended further training and graduated with Distinguished Honors from the Armor Officer Basic Training, then attended and graduated from the Airborne Ranger school at Fort Benning Georgia.

During his military service Colonel Alphin applied his self at every position he held and soon became recognized for his expertise in weaponry. He earned a Life Master in pistol and shot in many other competitive disciplines where he excelled.

In 1974 Colonel Alphin went on his first safari in Angola and Mozambique. He was caught up in the guerilla war and take over of Mozambique by Frelimo. He encountered issues with domestically manufacture rifles and ammunition led him to begin the development of his first cartridge in 1975. In 1979 he opened the A-Square Company and his products became highly sought after in the big game world.

The .500 A-Square was designed to provide maximum stopping power. It is capable of propelling a .510” dia. 600 grain bullet at 2,475 fps with 8,155 ft.-lbs. of energy.
