.458 Express

Developed in 2000 by Professor Koos Badenhorst Of Haenertsburg, South Africa the .458 Express is a unique cartridge. It was designed to endure Africa’s harsh conditions and the available rifle powders available in South Africa, giving this cartridge has a wide range of reloading options. While not well known outside South Africa and the big game hunter’s community, the .458 Express is a Big 5 cartridge and it capable of long-range, flat trajectory shooting as well as close up.

While there are several other .458 cartridges, the .458 Express is a straight wall belted case with a water capacity of 111 grains, compared to the .458 Lott at 103 water grains and the .458 Winchester Magnum at 92 water grains. The .458 Express is capable of propelling a .458” dia. 500 gr. bullet at 2,200 fps with 5,376 ft.-lbs. of energy.
