2R Lovell

Developed about 1937 by Hervey Lovell, the 2-R Lovell is unique as it is a wildcat developed off a wildcat. He also developed the .22-3000 and both cartridges are base off the .25-20 Single Shot, which was a wildcat developed about 1882. The 2R Lovell is one of the most popular wildcat .22 caliber cartridges designs, of its day, with both Griffin & Howe and J. Bushnell Smith custom loaded ammunition in large quantities. Griffin & Howe continued to offer the brass until the 1960’s.

The performance of the 2R Lovell is close to that of the .222 Remington. Like most wildcat of the period it has faded into history. It is capable of propelling a .224” dia. 55 gain bullet at 3,050 fps with 1,135 ft.-lbs. of energy.

Roberson Cartridge Company is a custom manufacture of Vintage, Obsolete, Hard to Find and Wildcat calibers.
